What we keep in the lamplight
Our games are full of secrets. Your information should not be one of them. Here is plainly what Lumen Moth Studio collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Last updated: October 30, 2026The short version
- We collect as little as we can: mostly what you choose to send us.
- We never sell your personal data.
- Playtests are for adults only; our games do not knowingly collect children's data.
- Email [email protected] to see or delete anything we hold about you.
File 01Who is holding the lantern
Us: a small independent studio.
This policy covers Lumen Moth Studio, the website at lumenmothstudio.com, our playtests and our games: The Lantern Ledger, Hollowmere Station, Saltglass and What the Moth Saw. For any privacy question or request, write to [email protected].
File 02Clues we collect
What you hand us, plus a little technical residue.
- On this website: the website has no accounts and no advertising trackers. Like most web servers, ours may record basic request logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to keep the site secure and running.
- Playtest sign-ups: the name or handle, email address, preferred game and platform you enter, plus your confirmation that you are 18 or older.
- Playtest feedback: survey answers you choose to give, and, if you opt in, gameplay notes such as where you got stuck or how long a chapter took.
- In our games: our games do not require a Lumen Moth account and contain no ads. Save files are stored on your device, or in cloud saves provided by your platform where you have enabled them. Optional crash reports, where offered, contain technical details about the crash and your hardware, not your name.
- Emails: whatever you include when you write to us.
File 03What we do with them
Make better games and answer you. Nothing stranger.
- To invite you to playtests, send build keys and collect your feedback.
- To fix bugs, balance puzzles and tune the scare-intensity of our games.
- To reply to your messages and support requests.
- To keep the website and our games secure and working.
We do not use your information for targeted advertising, and we do not build profiles about you.
File 04Who else sees the evidence
Only the platforms and services needed to run things. We never sell your data.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. Our games are distributed through storefronts and platforms such as Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. When you buy or play through them, those platforms handle your account, purchases, achievements and cloud saves under their own privacy policies; we only receive limited, generally aggregated information they share with developers.
We may use trusted service providers (for example, for email or website hosting) who process data only on our instructions. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our players or studio.
File 05Young readers
Our games contain light horror themes and are not directed at children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the higher minimum age where you live). Playtests are open only to people aged 18 and over. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
File 06Your rights over the file
Ask, and we will show you or shred it.
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop emailing you about playtests at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as objecting to processing or receiving a copy of your data. Email [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable time. We may need to confirm your identity first.
For data held by Steam or console platforms, please use the privacy tools those platforms provide.
File 07How long things stay in the archive
Only as long as it is useful.
- Playtest sign-ups: kept until the game you signed up for has launched, or until you ask us to remove you.
- Feedback and crash reports: kept while we are actively developing and supporting the game, then deleted or anonymised.
- Emails: kept as long as needed to resolve your request and keep a reasonable record of it.
- Server logs: kept for a short period for security, then deleted.
File 08When the story changes
We will update this page and the date at the top.
If we add features that change how we handle data, such as online leaderboards or a newsletter, we will update this policy and the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will also make a clear notice on this website or contact playtesters by email.
